FORTNIGHT DEVOTION: WAITING UPON THE LORD.

WAITING UPON THE LORD; A Larry Liza teaching. 1st February, 2008.

The Bible reads;
Isaiah 40:31: But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will SOAR on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. (NIV).

Isaiah 40:31: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary, they will walk, and not faint.

COMMENTARYThose who trust to their own sufficiency, and are so confident
of it that they neither exert themselves to the utmost nor seek
unto God for his grace, are the youth and the young men, who are
strong, but are apt to think themselves stronger than they are. And they
shall faint and be weary, yea, they shall utterly fail in their
services, in their conflicts, and under their burdens; they shall soon be
made to see the folly of trusting to themselves. But those that wait
on the Lord, who make conscience of their duty to him, and by faith
rely upon him and commit themselves to his guidance, shall find that
God will not fail them.... Being strengthened, First, They shall soar
upward, upward towards God: They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
so strongly, so swiftly, so high and heaven-ward. In the strength
of divine grace, their souls shall ascend above the world, and even
enter into the holiest. (Matthew Henry's Commentary)

Here are some of Larry Liza's tips to you as you wait upon the Lord.

1. Stand on the promises of God.
Believe in His word. In the book the Power of Positive Thinking, Norman Vincent Pearl urges us to nourish your mind, heart and soul with the beauty of His word, the glory of His Majesty. His word says;

 Isaiah 54:17; No weapon formed against you shall prosper:
It does not mean that weapons will not be thrown your way, of course they shall, it shall not mean you’ll not be harmed, you will be harmed at times. But you shall never be destroyed. He will always be there.

 Phil. 4: 13; I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me:
Let the devil say, ‘I cannot do all things through Christ who threatens me.’

Encourage yourself with this, especially in face of difficulties or uncertainties.

My brother loved banana's as we grew up and ate lots of them all by himself, for Mummy loved bringing us bananas but he always believed they belonged to him as the last born. I said, ‘You won’t even finish.’ He said, ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.’
I felt like praying, ‘Father, cause worms to grow in those bananas right now’.

 Rm. 8: 28; All things work together for good to those who love God:
Interviews.
 Ex. 14:14; The Lord will fight for you and you shall hold your peace:

2. Wait in faith, by faith.
Hebrews 1:1;Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. 2This is what the ancients were commended for. (NIV).

You have never seen your brain, but you know it is there, you weren’t sure you’d reach here, you came by faith. If are trusting God for a wife, you know you’ll get married, by faith, as a woman here you trust God for children, you just believe the eggs are deposited there.

Faith always has been the mark of God's servants, from the beginning of the world.

One commentary says 'And the same things that are the object of our hope, are the object of our faith.
This view of faith is explained by many examples of persons in former times, who obtained a good report, or an honourable character in the word of God. Faith was the principle of their holy obedience, remarkable services, and patient sufferings.'

By faith Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did. By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.
By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. 9By faith he made his home in the promised land like a
In search of me, I discovered truth. In search of truth, I discovered love and in search of love, I discovered faith. In faith, I have found everything.

Nobody exemplifies this as Abraham did.

Do your best, do not fear. Do what you have to do. I read this somewhere,
'When you don’t try
You’ve failed many times, although you don’t remember.
You fell down the first time you tried to walk.
(You first rode a bike, certainly fell)
You almost drowned the first time you tried to swim.
Don’t worry about failure.
Worry about the chances you miss, when you don’t even try.'

3. Obedience.

What are you waiting upon God for this year? A job, internship, scholarship, a wife, relationship.

There's the song; Trust and obey, for there is no other way, to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.' That is what Abraham did, he trusted God and obeyed Him.

Blessings for Obedience are so profound in Deauteronomy 28:1-14. If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations on earth.
3 You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country.
5 Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed.
6 You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.
7 The LORD will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven.
9 The LORD will establish you as his holy people, as he promised you on oath, if you keep the commands of the LORD your God and walk in his ways. 10 Then all the peoples on earth will see that you are called by the name of the LORD, and they will fear you. 11 The LORD will grant you abundant prosperity—in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground—in the land he swore to your forefathers to give you.
12 The LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. 13 The LORD will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the LORD your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom. 14 Do not turn aside from any of the commands I give you today, to the right or to the left, following other gods and serving them.

4. Giving

Have you ever read this story? 'A one dollar bill met a 20 dollar bill and said, "Hey, where've you been? I haven't seen you around here much." The twenty answered, "I've been hanging out at the casinos, went on a cruise and did the rounds of the ship, back to the United States for awhile, went to a couple of baseball games, to the mall, that kind of stuff. How about you?" The one dollar bill said, "You know, same old stuff, church, church, church."'

Give not so that you can receive but because you receive.
It is more blessed to give than to receive.

This is my word to you, thanks a Lord for sharing with me through your reading. Be free to give your comments.

The Lord bless you and keep you.
